My Real Techniques Brushes

The majority of my brushes are by Real Techniques, and they're definitely my favourite brushes for my face or base products. I find it slightly annoying how to get some of the brushes you have to buy them in a set. I usually end up giving the ones I wouldn't use away to a family member.

I'm sorry that you can't see the brushes in great detail in the photo, but pretty much everyone knows about the Real Techniques brushes and what they look like because there aren't that many. I'm going to go through my brushes starting with the first pink brush and going anti-clockwise. If that makes any sense in this situation.

Stippling Brush ($9.99/£10.99)
I'm pretty sure this is the first Real Techniques brush I ever got because I wanted to use it for foundation. However, I found that once I got the Buffing Brush, this just didn't do it for me anymore. But this brush is the best brush ever for cream blushes. It makes it so much easier than just using your fingers. It actually works nicely with powders products too so it's a great multipurpose one.

Setting Brush ($7.99/£6.99)
So the brush that you can't really see in my picture (apologies) is the setting brush which I use for certain powders because I don't like to over powder but also powder highlighters. It's the perfect size for applying highlighter because it's slightly tapered and it's not too large for the job.

Blush Brush ($8.99/£9.99)
A lot of people say they only use this for bronzer because it's too big for blush but I think it's perfect! It's tapered so you can use it in a really precise way if you want to. That being said, I do love it for bronzer too.

Buffing Brush (from Core Collection $17.99/£20.99)
This is such an amazing foundation brush for liquid, cream or powder foundations. I can't fault it apart from the fact that you can't buy it by itself! But fear not, the next brush solves that problem (for liquid foundations anyway).

Expert Face Brush ($8.99/£11.99)
Now this brush you can buy on its own, which I think is the way it should be. I love this brush for when I want to concentrate my foundation on certain parts of my face (usually the centre), because what the Buffing Brush does differently is that it evenly distributes your foundation across your face. I don't really know how to explain the difference between the Buffing and the Expert Face brushes but this one has more of a dense, oval top whereas the Buffing one has more of a round, less dense top. All in all I use Expert when I want more coverage and Buffing when I want it a little sheerer.

Contour Brush (from Core Collection $17.99/£20.99)
I have two of these (I also had two Buffing brushes but I gave one to my mother). I love this for contouring - surprise, surprise! It's the perfect size and it's actually also really great for blending concealer under the eyes.

Detailer Brush (from Core Collection $17.99/£20.99)
I don't use this brush for anything else but small blemishes. It's perfect for being really precise with so I really like it for that, but it's one of those brushes I only use if I've got time to really focus on my skin.

Base Shadow Brush (from the Starter Set $15.99/£20.99)
This is probably my least favourite brush but I do still like it. It's just a typical eyeshadow brush but it's really soft. As I said, I like it but I just prefer my MAC 217 because it's a bit more multipurpose. But it's still a good, basic eyeshadow brush. This one and the one below came in the eye set.

Deluxe Crease Brush (from the Starter Set $15.99/£20.99)
I don't ever use this for my eyes because I feel like it's a bit dense to be able to blend eyeshadows properly. However, it's a great concealer brush for under my eyes, blemishes and any areas of my skin with redness.

  1. great review! I just got my first RT brush and I got the blush brush and am so glad to read other people think it's a bit large! I was wondering if I had super small cheeks or something! I've only used it a few times so I haven't got much use out of it yet but I do love how soft it is!
