Disappointing Product # 3: Benefit They're Real


I'm so sorry if you love Benefit They're Real but I just don't get why people love this mascara when I just don't at all. I tend to prefer fibre wands but sometimes I do like plastic wands so it's not like I'm prejudiced against them. I like L'Oréal Telescopic for example but I just feel like They're Real was so over-hyped and I was let down. I find that the problem with this mascara is that it clumped all my lashes together and it ended up looking like I had about five fat lashes which isn't the look I go for surprisingly. Luckily I didn't actually ever buy the mascara, I just had a sample size.    

I need to point out that this isn't awful, it defintely isn't the worst mascara I've ever tried. The issue with this really is just how much hype there has been surrounding it. I also don't doubt that this mascara works for other people but I just believe there are much better mascaras out there. As I said in the opening paragraph, I just found this to clump my lashes together a bit and what I look for in a mascara is something that gives length but also thickens my lashes individually rather than making them all stick together.

Now because this wasn't a mascara I really got along with, I am going to recommend one that I do love. The full size of Benefit They're Real is $23 or £19.50 and one I think is much better is the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara which comes in at $19.50 or £17, which is not only cheaper but in my opinion about ten times better. It also has a plastic brush but it doesn't clump my lashes together and it also makes my lashes look a lot more voluminous.

    that makes 2 of us:) you're the first person apart that i've come across that also doesn't like they're real! i found that it weighed my lashes down and didn't hold a curl at all... when i returned it the sales girl gave me a shocked look and told me i was the only one who didn't like it... made me feel like the odd one!

    I like this mascara but I definitely agree with you that it's nothing to go crazy over... I'm currently using a Bobbi Brown mascara that I never hear anything about, but it's so much better than They're Real (and not that much more expensive in the long run!).

    I totally agree with you! I had heard amazing reviews both online and from people I know so I got it.. I expected fireworks to burst from the tube but it just did nothing for me.. When I layer it up it clumps my lashes together and they look spidery.. it doesn't hold a curl either.. not impressed! I do love L'oreal Telescopic and that's what I tend to go for on a daily basis :)

    It's not for me either. I did quite like the way it makes my lashes look, but it stings my eyes SO much that it ends up all down my face within the hour - not a good look!

      The plastic bristles also stabbed my eyes which isn't ideal :)

    I thought I was alone! I have tried this so many times. I so wanted to like it, but it makes my lashes look spidery & really hard. I dont like it at all

    I have to agree with you, I expected a lot more from this mascara! It just didn't work wonders for me.
