Disappointing Product # 5: Tarte The Sculptor

Unfortunately I had high hopes for this product because the concept is pretty good, it's just a shame the product really isn't...

I have a few problems with this product and the first is the shade, there is only one shade and it's definitely not universal by any stretch of the imagination. It's a reddy brown shade that looks well, reddy brown on pale skin so it really doesn't look like a natural shadow or anything even close to that. I think it was foolish not to come out with a range of shades, even three would have been better than just one. The other thing I don't like about this product is that I don't think it actually blends that well. I keep hearing everyone talk about how well it blends but I couldn't disagree more - I think this product requires a lot of work and I was hoping for it to be a quick and easy product to use. I have tried it with both brushes and fingers and I'm basically just not impressed. It also kind of disappears as you blend it so you can't really make this look as seamless as you would probably want to. I might try using it as more of a bronzer because of the shade but I really don't like it to put it plainly.

So that's my opinion on the Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer...

  1. That sucks to hear this was such a disappointment! The colour does look very red though. I think the concept is good but they didn't execute it very well. I know people already use though crayon concealers (Loreal true match, etc) in darker shades to contour with!

  3. Thanks for the honest review. I really appreciate blog posts like this as it stops us from wasting our money on products that fail to impress. Shame that it doesn't work into skin easily as I would never want to go rubbing my face with my fingers. Great review. Thanks again, Rosie x

  4. It's really..pink? It looks almost like Tarte Exposed. I'm a firm believer that contour needs a proper gray/taupe undertone to look like shadow. Also, if this formula is anything like the cheek tints, I feel like it'll rub off really quickly.

    Thanks for showing us!
