Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Review

My current favourite foundation of the moment is Chanel'Vitalumière Aqua foundation, which is quite a different foundation from what I usually go for. This isn't a new foundation, it has been out for quite some time so if you are a beauty junkie like myself then you have no doubt heard of this or tried it before. I have pretty normal skin at the moment, it isn't particularly dry and it is certainly not oily by any means so I tend to go for quite dewy, brightening foundations because I like a bit of radiance. I am usually a fan of foundations like Bourjois' Healthy Mix Serum and YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat but this one is a little different for me.

Application
So far I have only used this with my fingers because that's what Lisa Eldridge recommends and that's what the instructions recommend too. I just squeeze out a small amount onto one of my fingers and kind of pat it into my skin rather than smear it all over. I will try using this with a brush but I quite like just patting it into my skin at the moment. I start around my nose, on my cheeks, on my chin and then add a small amount onto my forehead. I haven't been taking this all over my skin just because I think it looks nice to put it just where I need a bit of coverage.

Consistency
This foundation is water based so you do need to shake it up before applying because otherwise it will come out far too liquidy. It is a very thin foundation which means it blends easily and evenly.

Coverage & Finish
The coverage on this is pretty light but you can build it up to a more medium coverage if desired. I think this is a great foundation for the warmer months because of the light texture and because it won't look to cakey in broad daylight. The finish is semi-matte/satin which is a nice change for me because I usually go for quite a dewy/shiny faced finish so it's nice to try something more natural. Although it is semi-matte there is an almost pearlised luminosity which picks up light really nicely and in a really natural way. If you do have a lot of blemishes, this really won't cover much so I definitely need a bit of concealer when I wear this.

Colour
I have the colour Beige 10 which is a pretty good match for my pale skin. I tend to like more neutral/yellow foundations rather than pink ones (which cheaper, drugstore foundation tend to be - apart from my beloved Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum of course and some of the Revlon ones too) and this one is quite natural and neutral without being too yellow and it is not pink in the slightest.

Lasting Power
I don't tend to apply much powder to my skin but I do like to put a bit of the Clarins Ever Matte Powder under my eyes and on the end of my nose (?!). I find that this lasts perfectly well on my skin without any foundation and it looks pretty much the same from when I apply it in the morning and when I take it off before going to bed. Although I don't currently have a job or have particularly long, tiresome days but a whole day out shopping in Paris is a good way of putting it to the test (right?).

Price
It is quite expensive, I think it tends to retail at about £31/£32 but I don't think that's actually too bad for Chanel. I do think though that if you are going to spend a lot of money on any makeup item it really should be foundation because if you have a good base and nice looking skin then you can get away with messier eye makeup and that kind of thing. I just think nice looking skin is the most important thing when it comes to doing your makeup.

Smell
I personally really like the smell of this, it basically smells like a light sun cream? But I just think it is quite a nice, light smell which isn't too overpowering and it doesn't smell chemically.

All in all, I absolutely love this foundation. I also think the packaging is super cute and dinky, which is ideal for travelling. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a really natural, satin skin finish.
