As much as I love an orangey red lip, I tend to find more blue toned, purpley or pinky reds more wearable simply because they don't make your teeth look yellow. I don't even have yellow teeth but I do feel less self-conscious when wearing a more blue toned red. Anyway, without further ado here are my top five red lip shades...
Now, I suppose I have to apologise for the lack of swatching - you see, I did do it, but they all looked really bright pink no matter what I tried. I think my camera picks up pinky/blue tones way too much and it was just such a bad representation of what these look like in real life that I thought I would just scrap that. I feel like my camera picks up eyeshadow colors a lot better than lipsticks but nevermind! Although the photo above is pretty true to life so I'm just going to shut up now. I will get a new camera at some point this year for sure…
This is more of a wine, deep red but it still counts! I don't wear this all too often but it's a really versatile shade and it works really nicely as a stain if you just dab a small amount on your lips. It almost looks like a really dark purple in the stick but when you apply it it's definitely more of a deep wine shade. It's basically the perfect vampy red.
I really like Chanel lipsticks as a whole and I really like this one because similarly to Revlon Black Cherry you can either dab it on or build it up to be quite dark. I find that the staying power is pretty amazing too, although it does dry out my lips a little bit but that's to be expected with lips as dry as mine!
I absolutely love everything about this lipstick, it's not overly matte or particularly shiny so it's a nice middle ground red. Again it's a cool toned red lipstick so it makes your teeth look good. I also find that on the first swipe this is a bit sheer but it can definitely be built to make a really pretty deep raspberry lip color.
As if this is my first ever Nars lip product. I need more of these. First of all the color is absolutely stunning -- it's a perfect deep red and it's not orange but it's not too pink either. Aside from that, the formula is perfection. I can't usually wear full on matte lipsticks for long periods of time but I just find that this isn't drying at all (as long as you make sure your lips aren't too dry to start off with!) and it stays on through anything. I wore this on NYE and I ate and drank… and drank… and… you get the jist. It ain't going nowhere. This was potentially a limited edition shade (I could be totally wrong & probably am) but they have so many beautiful red shades that you have plenty of options!
This is the sheerest of the lot but it's still pretty buildable so you can really play with this one, which I like. I also find these lipsticks pretty moisturising which is good for someone like me who has really dry lips
And that's it! What are your favorite red lipsticks?
