I spotted the Maybelline Color Elixirs by Color Sensational in Duane Reade the other day and anything that might be similar to the YSL Glossy Stains I am definitely down for giving a go and these did not disappoint. I have two shades: 055 Glistening Amber and 040 Vision in Violet. Read on for swatches and the full review (please note my chicken skin on the swatch image!)
These smell very similar to MAC lipsticks, they have that vanilla scent that I personally love. I tend to hate the smell of Rimmel lipsticks because they smells of candy and I find that really sickly - anyone agree? Nice smell aside, I'm impressed by the smooth texture of this lip product and how evenly it applies compared to something like the Rimmel Apocalips which I don't mind, but I don't get the fuss about at all. Unlike the YSL Glossy Stains, these aren't marketed as stains but I find the lasting power to be pretty decent. They're also not sticky which is important to most people I would imagine.
Glistening Amber is a pretty goldy nude shade with shimmer running through it (definitely not glittery though) and Vision in Violet is a straight up purple with no shimmer. I think I will be checking out some of the other shades (there are 20) because there is a really pretty selection. My favorite between the two I have is Vision in Violet because it can be worn as a full on purple or more as a tint which is a lot more wearable during the day.
